Conjunctivitis - A Medical Dictionary, Bibliography, and Annotated Research Guide to Internet References In March 2001, the National Institutes of Health issued the following warning: "The number of Web sites offering health-related resources grows every day. Many sites provide valuable information, while others may have information that is unreliable or misleading." Furthermore, because of the rapid increase in Internet-based information, many hours can be wasted searching, selecting, and printing. This book was created for medical professionals, students, and members of the general public who want to conduct medical research using the most advanced tools available and spending the least amount of time doing so.

Each book provides information about the particular disease and general information about illness and staying healthy.
The Official Patient's Sourcebook on Conjunctivitis This book has been created for patients who have decided to make education and research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it also gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it tells patients where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to conjunctivitis (also acute conjunctivitis; chronic conjunctivitis; follicular conjunctivitis; inflammation of the conjunctiva; newborn conjunctivitis; papillary conjunctivitis), from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on conjunctivitis. Given patients' increasing sophistication in using the Internet, abundant references to reliable Internet-based resources are provided throughout this sourcebook. Where possible, guidance is provided on how to obtain free-of-charge, primary research results as well as more detailed information via the Internet. E-book and electronic versions of this sourcebook are fully interactive with each of the Internet sites mentioned (clicking on a hyperlink automatically opens your browser to the site indicated). Hard-copy users of this sourcebook can type cited Web addresses directly into their browsers to obtain access to the corresponding sites. In addition to extensive references accessible via the Internet, chapters include glossaries of technical or uncommon terms.
Cicatrising Conjunctivitis (Developments in Ophthalmology) Cicatrizing conjunctivitis is one of the most challenging causes of ocular surface disease today, and without appropriate intervention, corneal blindness or loss of sight from supervening infection is common. Because many of these diseases are rare, there is often limited management experience available and the resources for research into treatment and pathogenesis can be scarce. This text summarizes present treatment strategies and the clinical and laboratory studies validating these approaches. Topics discussed include an in-depth look at non-progressive causes including trachoma, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and ligneous conjunctivitis. The text also examines chronic progressive conjunctival cicatrization, the diseases which cause it, their clinical and laboratory evaluation, immunopathogenesis, sequelae and management. It should aid the planning of intervention and treatment of a group of diseases previously associated with poor prognosis.

Blepharitis and Conjunctivitis. Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment This handbook is the 5th educational publication carried out under the auspices and support of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS). As with the previous Guidelines, a panel of clinicians and scientists with expertise in external ocular diseases and inflammation was formed. This panel was given the task to compile a concise script on the available knowledge including also their personal respective experiences regarding two of the most common ocular inflammatory diseases: "Blepharitis" and "Conjunctivitis". The guiding outline of the panel was to compile practical and concise referenced texts with an appeal to clinicians and clinical scientists worldwide and applicable to developed as well as developing countries. These Guidelines also aim at helping (and guiding) the practicing ophthalmologist to recognize the important symptoms and signs of specific diseases and to design a logical approach for their work-up, diagnosis and treatment. Due to the clinical fact that the symptoms (and signs) of blepharitis (and conjunctivitis) are similar even when the etiology is different, a special emphasis has been made to highlight the specific differentiating characteristics of diseases. To this purpose, simple tables and flow charts have been compiled and included as appendices. In these guidelines (as for the others in this series) proper clinical observations and assessments remain always the most important steps for the design of the appropriate treatment regimen with the highest potential for beneficial outcomes.
